Radial Design Prints

Art Start December 2015

We took our inspiration from snowflakes for these radial design prints. First designs were sketched in pencil then transferred to styrofoam printing blocks. The pencil lines were carved deeper into the styrofoam with metal-tipped pens. Next we rolled printing ink onto the styrofoam blocks using brayers. To keep track of which corner gets printed to the center each time, we made a mark on the back with permanent marker. Printing four times made a complete radial design (an image radiating out from a central point). The finished prints were either left as is, embellished with marker, or printed a second time with reduction printing (carving away more styrofoam first). Some people also tried printing an inverted image with a different corner to the center of the paper. Great job, artists!
